Donald Trump Failed This Country

It boggles the mind how the US presidential race could be this close.  We know what the choices are and it couldn't be more obvious what the "best choice" is.

I am definately not saying that I think Kamala Harris the right choice, but given the choices she is the best option.

Donald Trump had 4 years to show us what he was about and what he could do and the answers were painful.

He alienated us around the world, with this international antics.  It was the pathetic display of an entitled rich kid that got where he was on a combination of luck, cheating, and his privaleged  upbringing.  Go back and think about it.  He pushed other world leaders out of his way to ensure he got a prominent spot in a group photo.  There was that weird photo of him and a bunch of Saudis touching that glowing ball, what ever was happening there.  He insulted Angela Merkel.  He threatened to pull out of NATO.  He tried to blackmail the very leader of Ukraine that has been fighting Russia now for over two years.  This list alone should be proof that we deserve better representation on the international stage.  We are not bullies and shouldn't be represented that way.

Trump referred to a white nationalist rally as good people on both sides.

He failed to respond to COVID until it was too late.  His CDC initiated testing late, and didn't invoke the defense production act until the hospitals were out and no one could get the PPE they needed.  He told people to take bleach and farm animal dewormer and promoted junk science.  He discredited and mocked multiple state governors.

He encouraged cultural divisions to an almost dystopian level...  Remember that time he used military officials and local police as a pawn to clear a racial justice protest just so he could get a photo op in front of a church holding a bible in such a way it wasn't clear he had ever held any book in his hands before.

And what ever happened with that wall he wanted?  And what about the irreparable harm done in our name by Trump to the thousands of families that were forcibly separated at the border and the children concentration camps he ran.

None of this leads to a stronger country or a better quality of life for anyone.

I have asked so many Trump supporters why they like Trump.  He didn't do anything.  His administration was chaos.  About the only thing he ever did was agree with house republicans that passed a tax cut and he negotiate a lack luster trade deal with China that hasn't worked.

The one thing Trump supporters say when I ask them what they like about him...  His attitude and bravado... but that's not how you govern and that's not leadership.

Kamala Harris isn't a panacea, but she isn't the disease either.  She's a prosecutor.  She knows how to take the facts, present them, use reason, and use logic to make a case for action.  And really, that is what we need.  It would be great to have a choice on the ballot that aligned perfectly with my ideals and could solve firmly and finally inflation, Israel, Ukraine, COVID, Global Warming, racism, ect.  That never happens and we have to choose the best option we have available to us at the time.

As a side note, if we all agree to write in Bill Nye the Science Guy we could have the type of leadership we need and deserve.

"Ideas" Primary survey

I just checked the mail and behold I just got a survey from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  They really want my input on the survey to help guide policy in the coming election season.  The trouble is that when it comes to politics every word in a statement needs to be given scrutiny five times over to make sure you know the meaning before you agree to it.  As such this "survey" is mostly a questionnaire on "How much do you agree with the policy positions we have already decided on?" Noticeably absent from the survey is any mention of a Green New Deal, reforms to student loan programs and higher education to make it all more affordable, or even the medicare for all program that Bernie Sanders championed and some of the other prospective candidates for the 2020 Presidential election have supported.  This survey is more of a confirmation letter that the Democratic Party still isn't listening. I can appreciate that the Trump administration has ...

American Pride, The Memoir of a Future President, Part 2 Go Planet!

It's no surprise that I came to the book "50 Things Kids Can Do To Save The World".  The world decided for me that I was going to be an environmentalist.  Some of my first and most indelible memories are images of oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico.  The dead birds, fish, ect... covered in oil all from ONE  accident.   Like many young Michiganders I grew up spending many a hot summer day on the beaches of Lake Michigan.  Too see an area similar to one of my happy places turned to ruin in days... leaves a mark on your brain similar to the first time your family pet dies.  I love this and something terrible has happened to it. You have to treasure the good things in your life while you have them, and that includes the natural beauty around you.  That was something I learned early. It is also true that kids latch on to things and don't let them go.  I got in to recycling, big time.  The local community waste transfer center started...

Common ground

If we all talked openly about what we really want from our politicians I think we would find a lot in common.  I also think we would find that none of us truly likes the choices we are given. U.S. politics is overrun with business people and lawyers.  Neither one of which is particularly adept at problem solving.  Career politicians are worse, they make their living off knowing how to kiss ass and beg for money.  Also worthless at problem solving. In this modern era of challenging scientific and technical information it is kind of important to have people with training in these issues representing us, or at least willing build a basic understanding before handing down decisions.  What we have now are representatives considering privacy issues with Facebook that have no idea how the internet works.  Lawyers arguing about environmental policy that don’t know earth history well enough to understand how coal ever came to exist or why understanding that woul...
